What’s New

Fulham Wine Bar & Kitchen

The Fulham Wine Bar & Kitchen opened their doors a few weeks ago and they’ve certainly had the weather for it, their terrace at 116 Wandsworth Bridge Road has been buzzing! We spoke to General Manager Luigi about how the sister to The Putney Wine Bar has gone down with Fulham locals.

“We’ve had a good couple of weeks and it’s been very busy with customers ranging from 20 - 80 years old! We love our spot on Wandsworth Bridge Road and the terrace has been a hit so far this summer”. We asked Luigi what locals who haven’t visited yet could expect. “We’re a traditional wine bar serving cheese, charcuterie boards and tapas. In addition we have a menu that changes depending on what’s market fresh and seasonal. We also offer reasonably priced aperitifs and wine by the glass”.

We haven’t had the chance to pop in yet but we’ve checked out the menu which includes larger dishes like fried calamari, prawns & zucchini, a pork chop in parmesan and herb breadcrumbs as well as small plates: baked camembert, crispy arancini, fig & gorgonzola crostini, smoked salmon and horseradish salad and more. We can confirm the Aperitifs are reasonably priced with their Aperol Spritz, Espresso Martini and Negroni each costing no more than £7. Businesses on Wandsworth Bridge Road are bracing themselves for July when the bridge closes for repairs so show them some extra love and support! Cakes & sweet treats by Bakester

We wrote about Fulham resident baker Tamsin Robinson in the midst of lockdowns; if memory serves us correctly. Having trained as a Cordon Bleu pastry chef the pandemic hit and BakesterBox was born. Like other businesses that have emerged out of that difficult period, Tamsin has revaluated what she offers and rebranded. We spoke to Tamsin who told Urban Village LDN “I have basically combined my baking kit efforts with my general cakes and bakes to form the newly named Bakester. I started making custom celebration cakes for clients over 10 years ago and continued the odd order whist running BaksterBox but that side hustle is officially becoming part of the Bakester brand”.

So Tamsin is expanding her core business beyond scratch baking kits to bespoke cakes n bakes and consultancy. Sounds like an exciting new chapter and we can vouch that Tamsin’s bakes are delicious and that she really is a one stop baking solution to cater to all your sweet desires.

If you’re looking for a celebration cake, fancy some freshly baked scones for a cream tea get together or dessert spreads for parties, favours for weddings and treats for baby showers get in touch with Tamsin. As well as creating all sorts of delectable cakes for private clients Tamsin can also help with products for coprorate and wholesale customers.

“Over the past three years Bakester Box went from strength to strength but as the orders grew, I began to miss being in the kitchen and actually baking myself. As much fun as weighing ingredients is!”. Tamsin loves creating celebration cakes, working mainly with buttercream, each masterpiece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail and Bakester can bring your vision to life with custom-designed creations tailored to your unique style, theme or simply choose from one of their simple classic designs; vegan and gluten-free options also available. Check out Bakester’s website on the link below where you can also order.

Pregnancy Yoga Classes

MamaLuna is a holisitic pregancy and postnatal care service, that has just launched their new pregnancy yoga classes on Tuesday evenings (6.15pm) at the Charlotte Anne Sullivan (CAS) halls in Parsons Green.

Judit Schoblocher a Fulham resident of over 14 years and founder of MamaLuna got in touch with Urban Village LDN to tell us more. “As a local mum of three, my goal is to support women through this special rite of passage into motherhood. My own miscarriages and birth experiences lead me to the path where I am now. The midwifery system in the UK is supportive and women centered, still back at the time when I got pregnant, I was unfamiliar with the NHS and without local family support I felt lonely and lost on my journey to become a mum. I wanted to follow the natural way, opted for a homebirth but the postnatal period and recovery took longer and was much more challenging than expected”.

When expecting her second son Judit did a lot of research and found hypnobirthing techniques which changed her whole attitude to pregnancy, birth and beyond. “I understood better the physiology of birth, how mind and body connection is a vital part of it and how with all the different hypnobirthing techniques I can be in charge of my own birth experience. The birth of my second and third sons confirmed that physical and mental preparation can change the experience of childbirth and make you feel a strong and capable mum”.

With a holistic approach Judit supports expectant mothers who have previously experienced miscarriage or a traumatic pregnancy and birth so they can have an anxiety free pregnancy and joyful childbirth. Find out more about MamaLuna’s pregnancy yoga classes, doula services, hypnobirthing classes, breastfeeding and perinatal trauma support on the link below.

The Fulham Tavern Munster Road

The Fulham Tavern

We were sad to see Locale on Munster Road shut its doors and the site sit empty for several months. We know that Locale was a local for many Munster Villagers and it had one of the best and sunniest terraces in Fulham. So although we’ll miss Locale and the lovely team there (it was the venue of our first social after all) we’re glad to see that the doors are back open and now operating as the Fulham Tavern.

The food on offer at 222 Munster Road includes small plates to accompany your choice of tipple, we’re rather liking the sound of the fried whitebait and smoked paprika mayo and we always have to have some olives to inhale. Main courses include a plethora of pizza choices and dishes including Pan Roasted Chicken Supreme, Hand Made Butter & Sage Ravioli and, always a classic, Ribeye Steak with Peppercorn Sauce.

Basically there are options for meat-eaters, seafood enthusiasts and vegetarians alike. Don’t forget that terrace too! It's a fantastic spot for sundowners, with cocktails ranging from Moscow Mules to Whisky Sours. Head to the link below to find out more and, if you like what you see, make a reservation whilst you're there!

The gallery owners told Urban Village LDN “What is at first glance a cocophany of colour and mark making soon becomes something else. Parsons Green Fair

What’s Happening

Parsons Green Fair

The annual Parsons Green Fair takes place, you guessed it, on Parsons Green, on Saturday 1 July (11.30 am - 5.30pm). There will be over 100 stalls selling a huge array of products: beautiful kaftans, children’s clothes, jewellery, toys, cakes, olive oils, antiques, fabulous tableware and more.

Family fun for all ages includes a host of live performances from local schools of dance, drama and music, donkey rides, circus acts, fun fair, a petting zoo, Punch and Judy shows, magicians and bungee jumping.

Lunch and snacks are covered too with a large food and beverage area offering organic burgers and sausages, pizzas, salads, ice creams, sandwiches, and other delicious snacks from local food suppliers and Kenrick’s will be serving orange wine (if you haven’t tired we think it’s a must have for summer), rose, white and red, Pet Nat and beers on sale by the glass or bottle.

The event is made possible by the sponsorship of Fulham based companies Marstons Properties and John D Wood; the event is also supported by other local businesses. 100% of Fair profits are donated to Fulham Good Neighbours, a local charity who have supported older and disabled people in Fulham since 1966. They support the elderly in their homes via FREE Gardening and Decorating & DIY services with the support of 100 local volunteers for their Befriending, Good Neighbour Scheme and Digital Inclusion projects. You can find the team at their community centre on Rosaline Road, where six days of the week they host Social Club activity including: Art, Chair Based Exercise, Choir, Craft, Digital drop-in, Reading, Lunch, Silver Clubs, Sunday Tea and more!

Jesse’s House & Parson’s Green Nursery to open early 2024

Jesse’s House and Parsons Green Nursery comes to Fulham in 2024. Located on 8 - 10 Heathman’s Road this will be the second private members family club site from the Little Houses Group. Jaego’s House and Kensal House Nursery was created by Charlie Gardiner (Jaego’s Dad) who put together an all parent team, with children under the age of eight and Jaego’s House opened the doors to The White Building, previously the riverside HQ of Virigin Records, in November 2022.

We’re pretty sure Jesse’s House will encompass the same ethos which is to basically make family life easier, be a place that parents look forward to visiting just as much as their children. A space “where kids are allowed to be kids, they can express themselves, make a mess and have the odd tantrum without any judgment, eye rolling or requests to be quiet, a place where children should be seen and heard”.

We’re looking forward to seeing what’s on offer at their Fulham site. Jaego’s House provides everything from giant slides to great food, activites and events for both adults and kids. It’s all done in a pretty cool, effortless way so we’re hoping some images of work in progress at Jesse’s House will be appearing soon! Want to stay tuned? Hit the link below to sign up for updates and news. Of course as ever we’ll also keep you posted!
