What’s New, On & Happening in Fulham
March 2023
“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”
― Charles Dickens
We’re not sure if it’s because we’ve been distracted, excited and focused on our Fulham Social & Networking Event this month or that we’ve dropped the ball on tracking down newbies for this page!
There seems to be a bit of a lull on the “What’s New” front this month, not unsurprising to be honest coming out of such a bleak winter for local businesses with staffing issues, steep power costs etc but don’t worry there’s already lots on our radar for the April issue so bear with and stay tuned. In the meantime here are two gems for you.
Azur is a new steak, seafood restaurant and bar which recently opened at 803 Fulham Road. They started with a soft launch and a small menu and we spoke to owner Pavell Razar, good timing as their full menu launches on 1 March, about how business has been so far, what’s on the new menu and why he chose Fulham.
“I’ve been thinking about opening a restaurant for a while now. Having spent a lot of time in the the Fulham area, as I have a lot of friends round here, I thought it would be a good location for my new venture. It’s been great so far and Fulham locals have been very supportive”.
We haven’t been in to sample anything from the menu yet but we’ve of course checked out what’s on offer. We thought their main course prices seemed good value but if you fancy pushing the boat out you can go for a Tomohawk steak for two at £90. Other options on the menu include garlic butter king prawns, Fillet & Sirloin steaks, lamb chops, seared scallops, lemon sole and lobster. Pavell told us “We’ll be keeping our steak, lobster and seafood dishes but there will be more Mediterranean options from now on including shish, kebabs and mezza”.
We’re very happy that there’s a happy hour and that it’s longer than an hour (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5-7pm) and we love the restaurants interiors: stylish banquettes, lush green walls and marble topped tables.
Find out more about Azur’s menu on the link below and if you fancy giving them a try hit the contact button to book a table. READER OFFER: If you mention Urban Village LDN you’ll get 10% discount off your bill in March!
As we’re all about supporting local we also love that Pavell is reaching out to local business owners, offices, staff members in the surrounding area to offer them a “forever” discount. Azur’s opening hours are: Mon - Thursday (5pm - 11pm), Fri - Sunday (12pm - 11pm).
Well we love to hunt down a story and get straight to the horses mouth, in this instance that would be Teo at Il Pagglicacco, but as anyone knows life as a restauranteur is fraught at the best of times. We’d love to be giving you more bones here but the little deets we snaffled are good enough to make our “What's New* page.
Basement Nights started at Paggs in February and they’re billed as a “sophisticated night out with fine Italian cuisine”. The next one takes place on Wednesday 22 March at 7.30pm. Book in for this event and you’ll enjoy a set menu (£25) and piano recitals featuring the music of classical composers including Bach, Chopin and Debussy as well as solo jazz pieces.
The food here is always fantastic but if you want a fun night out with friends as well as delicious Italian cuisine, sounds like it's definitely worth heading to 183 - 184 Wandsworth Bridge Road for this new monthly event. Ring 0207 371 5253 to find out more and book your table!
Are You a Monster? was published last month and is described as “a fun interactive read-aloud picture book that will have children of all ages roaring and stomping along, as Monster encourages them to be the scariest monster possible”.
Author / illustrator Guilherme Karston will be at Nomad Books (Fulham Rd) for what sounds like a fantastic story time for all ages (3 +). Guilherme will be signing copies of his latest book after the reading. No need to book (excuse the pun), just head over to Nomad and enjoy!
A free Social & Networking Event for the Fulham community. We’re gathering as many local people and businesses together in one place, the Sands End Arts & Community Centre (SEACC) on Wednesday 15 March between 6-8pm.
No pressure, no stages, no microphones, no demands this event is simply an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and support one another. Our last event brought about some lovely connections and collaborations and we’re looking forward to meeting more local residents and connecting further with the Fulham businesses who’ve registered to attend including: The Local SW6, Wandsworth Bridge Road Association, The Daisy Trust, Little London Music School, City Pub Group, Fulham Palace and Green Salon Consultancy.
Fulham Camerata’s Spring concert is entitled ‘Glories of the Baroque’ and explores music from the well known trio of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, as well as revisiting Monteverdi, a composer the choir is more than familiar with, having tackled his Vespers in November of last year.
This local choir will welcome string quartets from Godolphin & Latymer School and Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School who will accompany them throughout the concert together with Chris Potts, the choir’s accompanist.
The Spring programme also includes the lesser known Pergolesi’s Magnificat, thought to have been composed by his teacher, Francisco Durante, but attributed to Pergolesi who died in extreme poverty in Naples at the tender age of 26.
The first half of the concert begins with Handel’s rousing Zadok the Priest, a great piece for this year of the coronation of Charles III, Bach’s ethereal O Jesu Christ Meins Lebens Licht, Monteverdi’s charming Beatus Vir, and a movement from Handel’s Organ Concerto, The Cuckoo and the Nightingale and finishes with Vivaldi’s famous Gloria, featuring soloists from within the choir.
Tickets: £15 (Students £10 and under 16’s free). Book in advance on the link below or buy on the door.
Venue: Holy Cross Church, Ashington Road.
This month Resilience Zone have a varied programme of events taking place at their gorgeous studio in Lettice Street. If you haven’t heard of Resilience Zone, set up by Fulham resident Claire Finlay last year, head here to find out more https://www.urbanvillageldn.com/whats-new-nov22
Alternatively why not book in for one of their events to experience what Resilience Zone has to offer. Their March programme begins on Friday 3 with “A Parents Guide to raising self confident and Resilient Children” with Mind Station Coaching's founder Chloe Kock, also a Fulham resident and previously featured in Urban Village LDN, and concludes with “How To Walk Away From A Marriage With Dignity And Inner Peace” run by Christel Cowdrey an international best selling author and mediator on Thursday 16.
Here at Urban Village LDN we’re always on a mission to sleep better so Resilience Zone’s Urban Retreat on Sunday 12 March, which entirely focuses on this subject, is ticking all our boxes. Three practitioners come together for guided mediation, breath work, sound bath, yoga and an insight into real life tools you can use to instill better sleep habits.

Easter holidays are fast approaching and if you’re panicking about how to fill the days we thought we’d flag Club Petit Pierrot’s Easter French Holiday Club in advance.
Founded in 1993 by Stella Bataille, Club Petit Pierrot offers fun French lessons for babies and children (from 6 months to 8 years old) in Fulham. Their unique and award winning French programme immerses children in a caring environment where they will love learning and speaking French naturally, without any translation.
Club Petit Pierrot’s Immersive Easter Holiday Club takes place from 3-6 April and the team told Urban Village LDN that the fun and caring environment they provide helps children express their creativity through arts and crafts activities, enjoy language games, create new friendships and great memories all while learning and practising French with their native French teachers. If you want to find out more about the club, suitable for all levels of French, and the half day they offer for 3-6 year olds click the link below.
WOW how chuffed are we! Over 100 Fulham local residents, businesses and brands have signed up to our first “flying solo” Fulham Social & Networking Event, taking place at the Sands End Arts & Community Centre (SEACC) on Wednesday 15 March (6-8 pm). If you haven’t registered for your free ticket yet, we’d love to see you there!
No agenda, scary presentations or labels (well maybe a sticky name tag), simply a great opportunity to meet, connect with Fulham locals and find out how we can support one another from volunteering within the community to collaborating on future events and ideas. A huge thank you to the Sands End Arts & Community Centre SEACC for hosting!
There will be a pay bar on the night to cover costs as both Urban Village LDN and SEACC are non profit making. Thank you to Kenrick’s for supplying us with the wine and to Ken for coming along on the night. Chat to Ken about the wines he’s serving at the event and find out what else they have on offer at their Wandsworth Bridge Road store from tastings to lesser known wine brands from independent producers. We tired some delicious orange wine last time we popped in, who knew that was a thing, first we’d heard about skin fermented white wine but we’re no wine buffs!
There are a few more tickets left so if you’d like to come along head to the link below to register for your free ticket.
Earls Court Development have revealed their first draft plans for the site which was formerly home to the exhibition centres. The proposals include bringing nature back to the site, a park, pedestrian / cycle friendly streets, squares, community venues and thousands of new homes.
Earls Court Development would like to hear what we all think, receive feedback and keep the conversation with the local community going. “Our ambition for Earls Court is greater than the provision of buildings alone: it is to create a London district that is integrated with its surroundings; a community where people choose to live, work and visit”.
If you’d like to check the plans out head to Conversation Corner, which is located on Lillie Road (opposite Hotel Lily) before 1 April. Opening hours are Wednesday (12pm-4pm), Thursday and Friday (3pm-7pm), Saturday (11am-3pm).
If you can’t make it to the consultation hub to take a look at their emerging masterplan, shaped by the community over the last two years, you can join their webinar on Monday 20 March (1.30 - 2.30pm). Or you can have your say by taking part in their on line survey which is now live. Both links below!
