What’s New, On & Happening in Fulham
May 2023
"May, queen of blossoms / And fulfilling flowers, / With what pretty music / Shall we charm the hours?" - Edward Hovell-Thurlow
As pet owners ourselves we’ve been frustrated by the lack of support and good practice shown recently by large veterinary groups. We know they’ve struggled to manage longer patient lists after the recent influx of lockdown dogs but that doesn’t sit well when your beloved pet is unwell, you urgently need a new meds prescription or certificates to travel. Well now Fulham has its first mobile vet, Moving Vet, who can come to you and treat your beloved four legged family members in your own home.
We couldn’t, along with other Fulham locals recommend Moving Vet enough, we’ve known Dr Lu Regan for a long time as she’s lived and practiced in Fulham for over 8 years taking care of local pets that have become part of her extended family. Lu started Moving Vet to provide personalised veterinary care for pets in the comfort of their own home. This at home service is kinder for your pet and you. Stressful journeys avoided, multiple pets seen in one consult, considerate care for older and vet fearing animals and longer in depth consultations with a vet who has over 13 years’ experience.
We caught up with Lu and she told Urban Village LDN why she founded Moving Vet. “For the past 8 years I have practised in Fulham which is also home to my two children, husband and our darling whippet Mzuri. I felt that personalised, consistent care for pets is a rare thing, it shouldn’t be and I wanted to change that. Your pet is a beloved family member, they deserve the highest standards of care and expertise. They will be seen in the most stress free environment they can be in, the comfort and familiarity of their own home. Fear reactive pets are easier to manage at home and their own environment sometimes reveals clues about their illness. There is reduced exposure to other animals and potentially infectious diseases in waiting rooms. Longer consultations offer value for money and as a working Mum of two I know that no wait times are always a good thing!”.
Services that Moving Vet carry out include annual health checks, vaccinations, certificates, puppy and kitten health examinations and second opinion consults. Lu has a special interest in dermatology, feline and canine medicine, holistic care and senior patients. Hit the link below to find out more and the full range of services that Moving Vet offers. To make an appointment message via What’s App on 07760 931651 or email info@movingvet.co.uk
1910 is a Mexican bar and restaurant and they opened a second branch in Fulham last month at 277 New Kings Road. We loved the footage of friends and family celebrating their doors opening Parsons Green way in true fiesta style with tequila shots all round and a mariachi band.
Named after the year of the Mexican revolution, 1910 is co-owned by Mauricio and Jose who were both born and raised in Mexico, and have a 20 year friendship under their belts after meeting each other in London. The combination of Jose’s expertise in mezcal and tequila and Mauricio’s cooking skills sounds like a perfect partnership.
Their food menu is inspired by family recipes and includes crispy and soft tortillas, tacos, quesadillas with a variety of fish and meat options. Drinks in addition to an extensive range of Mezcal and Tequila includes Margarita cocktails and Michelada’s, a traditional Mexican beer cocktail described as “the love child of a Cerveza beer and a Bloody Mary”.
We haven’t been in yet but their Atun Tostada (Crispy corn tortilla topped with yellowfin tuna tartare with lettuce, cucumber, tamari dressing, chipotle mayo, avocado sauce, coriander and a wedge of lime) accompanied by a Salva el Mundo (vodka and Avallen calvados) is top of our taste testing list!
Book in for Cinco de Mayo (Mexican Independence Day) on Friday 5 May they’ll be taco platters and Margaritas by the bottle.
Their website is work in progress but you can book a table using the button /link below alternatively email bookings@1910parsonsgreen.com or give them a call on 0207 585 5834
Fulham resident and author Susan Saunders new book The Power Decade gives women a positive outlook on life post-menopause and the know how to power up health in their 50s and 60s. The book steps away from the all too common and let’s face it somewhat depressing narrative of failing faculties, oncoming illness and negativity about this important chapter in a woman’s life. Women are encouraged to understand the long-term impact of the menopause on their health and to power up to make the changes which define how they age.
Susan talks to experts about women's physical and mental health and looks at how menopause impacts the way your body and brain are ageing, ways to mitigate against the long-term impact and good nutrition and exercise post-menopause. Also included in the book are practical tips, small daily habits which can have a huge impact – through meals, movement and mindset – to power through the post-menopausal decade.
Urban Village LDN talked to Susan and asked what inspired her to write this latest book “I looked around me at the incredible women I knew, my friends locally in Fulham, women I connected with through social media who are living incredible, powerful, interesting lives post menopause and I was really inspired by what they are doing, but as a health coach, I know that the adventures of the postmenopausal years have to be built on the foundation of good health. We have to look after ourselves. Once we have lost the protection that our reproductive hormones give us there's no Plan B, no one is coming to save us. This is our time to take care of our physical and mental health to take responsibility for it and really own that. However difficult it might be and whatever compromises we may have to deal with, but I feel that it's an incredibly positive time for women post menopause. Yes we may have health issues but we may also have opportunities that we haven't had in the past, and that's really exciting so that's really the heart of the book, how we build those good health foundations to build the life we want in the second half of our lives”.
Susan breaks down the importance of post menopause care simply “put it this way the average British woman lives half her adult life post menopause so of course we want to make that time of our lives for the second half of adult life as powerful as healthy as we possibly can. It isn't just the first half of adult life that has value and it's really important to remember that!”. Support local and pick up a copy from Nomad Books, Fulham Road.

Wandsworth Bridge Road, from Stokenchurch to Oakbury Road, will once again be fully pedestrianised. The beautiful tree-lined Wandsworth Bridge Road will be transformed for the day for people to enjoy: live music on two stages and a busking area, traditional funfair games, a dedicated children’s activity area with free events (kids yoga, football, party games, dancing, fairground rides) and Maypole dancing accompanied by a live fiddle player.
Local restaurants, cafes and shops will be trading on the street alongside 80+ visiting stallholders and food vendors. Last month we featured the Precious Whatsapp groups created last year by Natalie Collings, a Fulham resident and full-time Mum of two, as a platform for the Fulham community to recycle luxury children's items. The groups have been so successful, allowing Fulham locals to buy and sell amongst themselves, that there's now an additional group called Precious Home which has been created especially for pre-loved items for the home.
We've seen everything from Princess Castle slide beds, Chinese antique cupboards, martini glasses and whole kitchens for sale and it's great to see home furnishings, fixtures and fittings being given a second life. Natalie told Urban Village LDN "it’s wonderful, it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope - everyday is so interesting and colourful and with people’s myriad of tastes, you never know what’s going to be posted next! "
If you'd like to join the group hit the link / button below or message Natalie directly on 07730 312918.
Time flies and this month we celebrate our fourth anniversary. Last month’s issue was a record breaker with over 1K of unique visitors to our site; that is simply the total number of people who visited our site, not multiple clickers.
We’re slowly but surely growing in subscribers and hope this helps local businesses, brands and organisations who are still weathering the storm and difficulties from traffic schemes to higher costs by sending Fulhamites their way.
We’ll keep bringing updates on what’s new, on and happening in our urban village to Fulham locals and we’ve got some future plans in the mix for the years ahead so stay tuned.
As ever if you’ve got any suggestions as to what we could be doing better, tweaks we could make to ensure our platform is staying fresh and interesting let us know we always love feedback.
In the meantime thank you for your support: opening emails, clicking through to our site and following socials, it is massively appreciated. Right year 5 let’s be having you, we’re excited to truffle hunt for another year and bring you the feel good stuff!
