What’s New, On & Happening in Fulham
November 2022
“Welcome sweet November, the season of senses and my favorite month of all.” - Gregory F. Lenz
Urban Village LDN met Fulham resident Claire Finlay to get the inside story on Resilience Zone, the new sister company to Transition Zone; their physical training space. We were also invited to take a look round the gorgeous and tranquil space they’ve created on the top floor of The Glasshouse in Lettice Street. Claire told us “I felt there was a gap in the market for a highly accessible, vibrant, welcoming space where people can optimise their mental and emotional health. It had been something I’d been thinking about for quite a while but the need for such a space really hit home during the pandemic. I see the Resilience Zone as a mind gym. It’s widely accepted that we all invest time and effort into looking after our bodies; I believe the same care and attention should be given to our mental wellness”.
Resilience Zone has made the stigma free, mental maintenance support they offer flexible and easy to access. Everything is under one roof from breathwork and meditation classes to talking therapy, life coaching and eating disorder advice. You can try one session, a course and access a top up should you need it. Claire told us “we give you a resilience toolbox so when life throws a curveball you have coping mechanisms and techniques to draw upon. Everything we offer is science backed, no half baked woo woo theories, to help anyone who needs to mind their mind: from teenagers suffering with anxiety to post-menopausal women feeling they’ve lost their identity”.
We loved the look and feel of the space. It couldn’t be less clinical and Claire has most definitely realised her ambitions of creating a warm un-intimidating environment in which those accessing support feel comfortable. The light is incredible, thanks to the gorgeous generously proportioned windows throughout, the ceiling height extends up into the rafters, walls have been painted in the most calming colour palette, plants, art pieces and soft furnishings (including velvet sofas and cushions) are the finishing touches.
If you’d like to find out more head to their website (link below) or come along to their next event, see for yourself and support Claire in her new venture. Their “Immersive Breath and Sound Workshop” takes place on 7 November (6:30-8:00pm). We’ve read and heard so much about the transformation nature of breathwork so this session with Octavia Calthorpe, followed by a multi-dimensional sound bath from Elizabeth Broderick, is worth checking out if you haven't taken part in anything like this before and are as curious as we are. Head to our “What’s On” page for more info and to book.

Lark is a family run independent business based in South West London and their shops provide beautifully curated lifestyle and home products. They have been slowly expanding over the last 20 years and recently opened another branch on the Fulham Road (793) previously the site of Mortar & Milk; who have now moved East. They have 10 other stores which can be found in: Balham, Earlsfield, Tooting, Wimbledon, Streatham, Herne Hill, Askew Road, Chiswick, Clapham and are just about to the open doors to their latest branch in Raynes Park. We of course love businesses who support local people, brands and products so we were excited to see this new addition pop up in our neighbourhood and headed off to the Fulham Road to check it out.
We found all sorts of gift ideas for him, her, children and babies, lovely clothing from accessories (they’ve got a great range of socks) to colourful tops, jewellery, beauty products and more! There’s lots of gorgeousness to choose from on the ground floor and in their basement you’ll find a fantastic selection of homeware including a huge range of candles, lovely vases, planters, diffusers and a brilliant wall of cards; something for every occasion. Lark has opened in perfect time for some local Christmas shopping and it’s great to see another empty space filled with something that really adds value to the area.
We spoke to Fulham resident and Mind Station Coaching Founder Chloe Kock about her new venture. The children’s mindset and confidence coaching business was established for primary school children, to help them understand their own minds, grow in confidence and believe in themselves more. Chloe told Urban Village LDN “Our aim is to hand your child social and emotional tools for life, not just exams. I started this venture because reflecting back on my own school experience, we weren’t given the tools or strategies to thrive and understand ourselves as individuals. I’m sure we can all relate here and unanimously wish we had comprehended what was going on in our own heads! In my own teaching career, I have witnessed countless examples where children struggled with their confidence, mindsets and worries. I wanted to focus on the whole child, help them understand themselves whilst championing their unique abilities and strengths. These are life skills that we desperately need in adulthood and children can hugely benefit from learning them in the primary years”.
Mind Station’s services are delivered one to one, either in person or online, and they have two primary programmes for 5-12-year-olds, tailored specifically to either a KS1 or KS2 setting. Chloe told us that they use child friendly narratives, creative mediums and their “Brain Team” cartoon characters to help children learn where their emotions, feelings and thoughts come from. “Chloe’s manner of coaching is so wonderful and refreshing! She’s patient and supportive, but really knows how to motivate. She’s great at building confidence, keeping lessons fun and engaging through a variety of activities that improve conversation, writing, and reading skills. My daughter really enjoys spending time with Chloe” - Putney parent of a Year 5 child

Fulham Camerata, an amateur chamber choir, perform Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 on Sunday 20 November (6.30-8.30pm) at Holy Cross Church Fulham, Ashington Road, SW6 3QA.
The organisers got in touch to tell Urban Village LDN that “Monteverdi’s 'Vespers of the Blessed Virgin’ first published in 1610 has become one of the cornerstones of the classical repertoire and a towering masterpiece of the early Baroque. Its magnificent music holds an immediate appeal and speaks to us directly and powerfully across the four centuries since it was created”.
“Monteverdi produced the Vespers while he was choirmaster to the Duke of Mantua in northern Italy and was intended for use by the choirmasters of those great churches like St Mark’s in Venice or St Peter’s in Rome, which had a permanent staff of expert singers and could call upon instrumental forces. The beautiful 1610 Vespers contained all the music needed for the services of a feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary”.
Tickets cost: £15 + 60p booking fee/ student £10 and concessions + 60p booking fee.
Tickets also available on the door.
Kenrick’s have three evening events taking place this month from “Christmas Wines” (Thurs 10 Nov), billed as a mini wine market inside the store celebrating their favourite festive drinks which will have you covered from breakfast, lunch, dinner right through to cheese courses, “Thanksgiving Wines” (Fri 18 Nov) where they’ll be pouring Riesling from New York, Pinot Noir from Oregon and Chardonnay from Napa and “England (cheeses) v USA (wines)” on Fri 25 Nov.
Head to their brand new website to book your tickets. We went to their 1st birthday celebrations, connected with some Fulham locals, met some really interesting producers who were all super knowledgeable, good fun and accepting of us wine novices who were diving in and trying pretty much everything that was on offer! You might not like every wine you try but you’ll definitely discover something new and have a great time in the process. Ken and Rudy are always on hand to give you a warm welcome at 275 Wandsworth Bridge Road.

There’s been quite a bit of on / off and location changes with Fulham based farmers markets of late. To be honest we're not entirely sure why but the good news is that Fulham Farmers Market, previously held at St John’s Church, North End Road, has a new home and re launched last w-end.
You’ll now find them every Sunday between 10-2 at All Saints Primary School, Bishops Avenue, SW6 6ED. So if you want to ditch the Sunday Roast and grab a plate of jerk chicken instead, pick up some seafood, cheese, organic meat, deli items or simply want to select some weekly fruit and veg, head down to Bishops Avenue to take a look at their curated line up and see what takes your culinary fancy. We’ve heard there will also be live music, plenty of seating and a play area for mini Fulhamites.
After the success of their event in May Fulham girls, Caroline Firth and Tamara Fearnley-Whittingstall, are back hosting a Christmas Shopping Event. By Beautiful Brands champions small British businesses with a social conscious. Their website is a carefully curated, one stop shop where you can discover over 100 brands whose products range from men’s to ladieswear, gifts and homewares, jewellery and so much more. Their Christmas Event will see 60 of these beautiful brands brought together under one roof for a two day shopping extravaganza.
Maison Mirabeau will be sponsoring the event again and serving up some tantalising treats. By Vivi will be styling the event with her stunning floral displays and offering the opportunity to pre-order bespoke Christmas wreaths for collection from the event. For those who would rather visit in the evening, they will remain open for late night shopping on the Wednesday evening, where you can join them for some complimentary canapés and even a glass of fizz. All of this awaits you and no pre booking or tickets required as entry is FREE!

Great to hear that Fulham Good Neighbours (FGN) picked up an award last month for its “Adopt a Garden” initiative. Director Jamie Hilton was presented the award on stage at the 6th Healthy City Design 2022 International Congress which took place at the Royal College of Physicians.
FGN have supported older and disabled people in Fulham since 1966, providing everything from decorating & DIY for those that cannot pay privately to help with shopping or medication delivery. They run chair-based exercise classes, mitigating against slips, trips and falls and promoting wellbeing through physical activity, arts based social clubs. A Lunch Club and Sunday Afternoon Tea are also delivered from their community centre, Rosaline Hall, every week. Weekly Silver Clubs rotate around local pubs – the Rylston, Kennedy’s, the White Horse and Lillie Langtry – with heavily discounted meals. They also provide digital inclusion support and some social clubs can even be attended online for those that are housebound.
Fulham Good Neighbours “Adopt a Garden” scheme matches volunteers with older people in Fulham who have a garden but are not physically able to do the gardening themselves, are unable to get help from anyone else to do it for them and who would benefit from a social visit. The visits are monthly and cover basic garden maintenance and care; complex gardening needs (trees or jobs that need the involvement of electric tools) are referred to their gardening service. If you’re interested in volunteering get in touch with FGN info@fulhamgoodneighbours.org they’d love to hear from you.
Solidarity Sports is just out of the SW6 postcode as their new space, which opened in September, is located on North End Road just across the mini roundabout at Lillie Road. We had to give them a shout out for the work they do to help disadvantaged children by offering a range of programmes and activities including sports, art and cooking.
Did you know that 41 % of children in H&F lived in poverty in 2020/21 that’s around 9752 children. The team at Solidarity Sports go above and beyond to support local families providing hot meals during school holidays and helping with school uniform. Their Memory Maker initiative has seen children’s wishes come true, a special memory created by experiencing activities including kayaking, visiting an aquarium and go carting. Over half term a 9 year old went ice skating for the first time, “I can’t believe I did it even though I was scared. My friends all knew how to skate and now I can too”.
Solidarity Sports motto is “Every Child Deserves Happiness” so if you’d like to play a part and help create a memory for a local child you can do so from as little as £5 a month. They are also always looking for volunteers to join their team so head to their website to find out more and how you can become a “Memory Maker”.
