What’s New

Resilience Zone

Urban Village LDN met Fulham resident Claire Finlay to get the inside story on Resilience Zone, the new sister company to Transition Zone; their physical training space. We were also invited to take a look round the gorgeous and tranquil space they’ve created on the top floor of The Glasshouse in Lettice Street. Claire told us “I felt there was a gap in the market for a highly accessible, vibrant, welcoming space where people can optimise their mental and emotional health. It had been something I’d been thinking about for quite a while but the need for such a space really hit home during the pandemic. I see the Resilience Zone as a mind gym. It’s widely accepted that we all invest time and effort into looking after our bodies; I believe the same care and attention should be given to our mental wellness”.

Resilience Zone has made the stigma free, mental maintenance support they offer flexible and easy to access. Everything is under one roof from breathwork and meditation classes to talking therapy, life coaching and eating disorder advice. You can try one session, a course and access a top up should you need it. Claire told us “we give you a resilience toolbox so when life throws a curveball you have coping mechanisms and techniques to draw upon. Everything we offer is science backed, no half baked woo woo theories, to help anyone who needs to mind their mind: from teenagers suffering with anxiety to post-menopausal women feeling they’ve lost their identity”.

We loved the look and feel of the space. It couldn’t be less clinical and Claire has most definitely realised her ambitions of creating a warm un-intimidating environment in which those accessing support feel comfortable. The light is incredible, thanks to the gorgeous generously proportioned windows throughout, the ceiling height extends up into the rafters, walls have been painted in the most calming colour palette, plants, art pieces and soft furnishings (including velvet sofas and cushions) are the finishing touches.

If you’d like to find out more head to their website (link below) or come along to their next event, see for yourself and support Claire in her new venture. Their “Immersive Breath and Sound Workshop” takes place on 7 November (6:30-8:00pm). We’ve read and heard so much about the transformation nature of breathwork so this session with Octavia Calthorpe, followed by a multi-dimensional sound bath from Elizabeth Broderick, is worth checking out if you haven't taken part in anything like this before and are as curious as we are. Head to our “What’s On” page for more info and to book.

Lark

Lark is a family run independent business based in South West London and their shops provide beautifully curated lifestyle and home products. They have been slowly expanding over the last 20 years and recently opened another branch on the Fulham Road (793) previously the site of Mortar & Milk; who have now moved East. They have 10 other stores which can be found in: Balham, Earlsfield, Tooting, Wimbledon, Streatham, Herne Hill, Askew Road, Chiswick, Clapham and are just about to the open doors to their latest branch in Raynes Park. We of course love businesses who support local people, brands and products so we were excited to see this new addition pop up in our neighbourhood and headed off to the Fulham Road to check it out.

We found all sorts of gift ideas for him, her, children and babies, lovely clothing from accessories (they’ve got a great range of socks) to colourful tops, jewellery, beauty products and more! There’s lots of gorgeousness to choose from on the ground floor and in their basement you’ll find a fantastic selection of homeware including a huge range of candles, lovely vases, planters, diffusers and a brilliant wall of cards; something for every occasion. Lark has opened in perfect time for some local Christmas shopping and it’s great to see another empty space filled with something that really adds value to the area.

Mind Station Coaching

We spoke to Fulham resident and Mind Station Coaching Founder Chloe Kock about her new venture. The children’s mindset and confidence coaching business was established for primary school children, to help them understand their own minds, grow in confidence and believe in themselves more. Chloe told Urban Village LDN “Our aim is to hand your child social and emotional tools for life, not just exams. I started this venture because reflecting back on my own school experience, we weren’t given the tools or strategies to thrive and understand ourselves as individuals. I’m sure we can all relate here and unanimously wish we had comprehended what was going on in our own heads! In my own teaching career, I have witnessed countless examples where children struggled with their confidence, mindsets and worries. I wanted to focus on the whole child, help them understand themselves whilst championing their unique abilities and strengths. These are life skills that we desperately need in adulthood and children can hugely benefit from learning them in the primary years”.

Mind Station’s services are delivered one to one, either in person or online, and they have two primary programmes for 5-12-year-olds, tailored specifically to either a KS1 or KS2 setting. Chloe told us that they use child friendly narratives, creative mediums and their “Brain Team” cartoon characters to help children learn where their emotions, feelings and thoughts come from. “Chloe’s manner of coaching is so wonderful and refreshing! She’s patient and supportive, but really knows how to motivate. She’s great at building confidence, keeping lessons fun and engaging through a variety of activities that improve conversation, writing, and reading skills. My daughter really enjoys spending time with Chloe” - Putney parent of a Year 5 child
